The Borno State Government has launched an integrated vaccination campaign targeting Measles Rubella (MR), Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), Polio, and Routine Immunization (RI) across the state’s 27 Local Government Areas.
The campaign aims to protect children and adolescents from preventable diseases while reaching even the most remote communities.
This was contained in a statement by the Borno State Primary Health Care Development Agency (BSPHCDA) and made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Maiduguri.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Professor Arab Alhaji, Executive Secretary of the BSPHCDA, commended the state’s sustained efforts in tackling childhood and infant diseases. He called on parents, guardians, and community leaders to ensure all eligible children are vaccinated, stressing that vaccines remain safe, effective, and life-saving.
“We urge families and caregivers to present their children for immunization. The success of this campaign depends on everyone’s participation and support,” Professor Alhaji said.
Also speaking, the First Lady of Borno State, Professor Falmata Babagana Umara Zulum, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ending maternal and child mortality, noting that immunization is a key strategy for improving public health outcomes.
“This campaign reflects our collective resolve to safeguard the future of our children and eliminate preventable diseases in Borno State,” she said.
Representatives from UNICEF, traditional rulers, and wives of Local Government Chairmen pledged to intensify community sensitization and mobilization to ensure maximum participation and coverage.
The integrated campaign is part of the government’s broader initiative to strengthen the state’s primary healthcare system and align with the national immunization goals set by the Federal Ministry of Health.
