Borno Police Deploy Patrols, Assess Damage After Heavy Downpour in Maiduguri

The Borno State Police Command has conducted on-the-spot assessments and intensified security patrols across several parts of Maiduguri following heavy rainfall that caused structural damage in various communities.

The affected areas include Gomari, Bulumkutu, Jidari, ITE, and other parts of the state capital, where eight buildings reportedly collapsed due to the flood. Fortunately, no casualties have been recorded.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, said the Command acted swiftly to forestall any breakdown of law and order by deploying officers to secure evacuated homes and prevent looting or criminal activity.

The coordinated response was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Garba Audu Bosso, alongside ACP Jawi Muhammed and several Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) within Maiduguri Metropolis.

Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, psc, commended the swift action of the officers and urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding. He also advised parents and guardians to monitor their children and prevent them from playing in floodwaters, warning of the dangers involved.

“The Borno State Police Command remains committed to the safety and security of all residents and will continue to respond promptly to emergencies as they arise,” the statement added.

Residents in need of police assistance have been advised to contact the Command through the emergency lines: 0806 807 5581 and 0802 347 3293.
