…Condoles with Zulum, CJTF over latest bomb blast victims
Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, SAN, representing Borno Central Senatorial District, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing into law the bill establishing the Federal University of Agriculture and Entrepreneurship (FUAE) in Bama, Borno State.
Speaking to journalists in a telephone interview shortly after Wednesday’s Senate plenary, Lawan described the establishment of the institution as historic, noting that it is the first of its kind in Nigeria and Africa. He said the university will provide vital agricultural and entrepreneurial education not only to Nigerians, but also to students from neighboring countries like Cameroon, Niger, and Chad.
“I am very excited to see the establishment of FUAE Bama come to fruition today,” Lawan said. “Let me commend President Tinubu for assenting to this landmark bill. The university will serve as a game changer by addressing the nation’s high unemployment rate and dependence on white-collar jobs.”
Lawan extended his gratitude to Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas for their critical roles in ensuring the bill’s passage.
He also applauded Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for his “pivotal role and tireless efforts” in the process, praising his doggedness in countering renewed Boko Haram threats and for spending days at the frontline to reclaim Marte and other affected communities.
“This attendant risk taken by Governor Zulum is a testament of true and selfless leadership. As the Chief Security Officer of the state, he has demonstrated a high sense of responsibility,” Lawan stated.
The senator equally thanked his colleagues in the National Assembly for their overwhelming support during the legislative process that led to the university’s creation.
“As a specialized tertiary institution, I have no doubt the university will be a beacon of innovation and empowerment in the region and beyond,” he said.
Reaffirming his commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government, Lawan assured his constituents of continued efforts to attract federal projects to Borno Central.
In a separate statement, Senator Lawan expressed deep sorrow over the latest bomb explosion that claimed the lives of Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) members after their operational vehicle hit an improvised explosive device (IED) along the Marte–Dikwa road on Tuesday.
“I wish to commiserate with our Governor, Professor Zulum, the Service Commanders, CJTF leadership, and the bereaved families of the gallant heroes who paid the supreme price,” he said. “May their souls rest in Aljanna Firdaus and may Allah grant their families the fortitude to bear this painful loss.”
