Borno To Organise Cultural Unity Summit, Aiming To Restore Core Values

The Borno State Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar, on Thursday led a delegation to the office of the Borno Historical and Cultural Foundation, which equally serves as the Headquarters of the Borno Elders Forum on a consultative visit.

The Commissioner informed the members of the Borno Elders Forum that he was at their office to seek for their fatherly blessings and advices, as the newly restructured Ministry of Information and Internal Security is determined to revive all cultural activities in the state. He informed them that an approval has been granted by the BOSG for the ministry to organise a befitting Borno Cultural Unity Retreat with a view to restoring the lost of glory and core values of Borno State.

The Commissioner also informed the Elders’ forum that there will be a Global Kanuri Cultural Sumit initiated by members of Borno Emirate Concerned Citizens which has already received the blessings of His Royal Highness, the Shehu of Borno, Dr. Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai and the approval of Gov Zulum.

While highlighting the plans of the ministry, Prof. Tar further informed the members of Borno Elders Forum that there is an ongoing plan by the ministry to resuscitate museums and monuments in the state and rebrand them as Heritage Sites with a state of the art infrastructure to attract tourists. There shall be a new dedicated memorial site that will showcase the resilience of the Borno people akin to that of the Rwanda Genocide.

In response, the Chairman of the Borno Elders Forum, who also doubles as Chairman Borno Historical and Cultural Foundation, Alh. Gambo Gubio, appreciated the Commissioner and his entourage for the visit and assured that the forum is always ready to offer advices and counsels to the BOSG. He assured that the forum will support any positive initiative by individuals or organisations that can foster unity and move Borno forward.

On his part, the secretary of the Forum, Dr. Bulama Mali Gubio mni, who was the longest serving permanent secretary in the erstwhile Ministry of Information, Home Affairs and Culture took time to recall with nostalgia the giant efforts and contributions he made in the ministry and finally called on Prof. Tar to unite the over 32 Cultural organizations in Borno State under one big umbrella to achieve overall unity. Other members of the forum that took time to contribute include Alh. Bukar Kwaya, Alhaji Yusuf Ngulde and Alh. Mohammed Adam.
