The National Orthopaedic Hospital, Azare-Hawul, Borno State, has recorded a major milestone with the successful conduct of its first orthopaedic surgical procedure.
The historic operation, an interlocking intramedullary femoral nailing, was carried out on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, under the leadership of the Medical Director, Dr Ali Mohammed Ramat, a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.
Hospital officials confirmed that the patient is currently recuperating and responding positively to treatment.
The achievement marks a significant step forward in the hospital’s capacity to provide specialised orthopaedic care to residents of Borno State and neighbouring communities, reducing the need for referrals to distant medical centres.
In a show of support for healthcare delivery and patient welfare, Hon. Yusuf Mamman Msheliza fully covered the cost of the surgical procedure. His gesture has been widely commended by hospital management and members of the community.
Staff and stakeholders of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Azare, described the successful surgery as a collective achievement and a promising indication of improved orthopaedic services in the area, expressing optimism for more advanced procedures in the near future.
