Breaking: Explosions Rock Maiduguri, Military Blames Armory Fire at Giwa Barracks

Multiple heavy explosions shook Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, in the early hours of Tuesday, causing panic among residents.

The Nigerian military has confirmed that the explosions originated from a fire outbreak at the armory section of Giwa Barracks, a major military installation in the city.

In a statement issued shortly after the incident, military authorities described the explosions as accidental and not the result of any attack.

“The explosions heard across Maiduguri were caused by a fire incident at the armory of Giwa Barracks. There is no cause for alarm,” the statement said.

However, as a precautionary measure, the military advised residents living in close proximity to the barracks to temporarily evacuate to ensure their safety.

Security personnel have since cordoned off the area, and firefighting efforts are ongoing to contain the blaze and prevent further damage.

There is no official confirmation yet of any casualties or the extent of damage caused by the incident.
