The Senate announced the removal of Senator Mohamed Ali Ndume (Borno South) as Chief Whip on Wednesday. The decision was made during plenary, with members of the APC Senate Caucus endorsing Ndume’s removal through a voice vote.
The Senate President, Senator Akpabio, read letter from the national leadership of the ruling party, the APC. The letter requested Ndume to step down from his APC membership and consider joining a different opposition party of his preference.
The letter bore the signatures of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the national chairman of the party, and Barrister Ajibola Bashiru, the Secretary.
Ndume was replaced by Senator Tahir Mungono (Borno North). The removal comes after Ndume’s recent criticisms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government.
The APC national leadership also asked Ndume to resign from the party and join an opposition party of his choice in a letter signed by the party’s national chairman and secretary.
