Breaking: Sultan Declares Sunday Eid-el-Fitr in Nigeria

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared Sunday, March 30, 2025, as Eid-el-Fitr day following the sighting of the Shawwal crescent in parts of the country.

The Sultan said they received reports of sighting from Borno, Zazzau, Dutse, Maru, among other places within the country.

The announcement was made on Saturday night in Sokoto after confirmation from moon sighting committees and Islamic scholars across Nigeria.

“With the sighting of the new moon of Shawwal, tomorrow, Sunday, March 30, 2025, will be Eid-el-Fitr,” the Sultan, who is also the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), said in a statement.

He congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast and urged them to sustain the virtues of patience, piety, and charity beyond the holy month.

The declaration aligns with Islamic tradition, where Eid-el-Fitr is observed on the first day of Shawwal, marking the end of Ramadan.

Meanwhile, Muslims across the country are expected to gather at Eid grounds and mosques for the special Eid prayer.

In his goodwill message, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu felicitated with the Muslim Ummah, calling for continued unity, tolerance, and prayers for national progress.

Security agencies have assured citizens of adequate measures to ensure peaceful celebrations, while religious leaders have urged Muslims to embrace moderation and charity.
