President Bola Tinubu has approved a new minimum wage of N70,000 for Nigerian workers, according to a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The President made the announcement during a meeting with leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Tinubu also promised to review the national minimum wage law every three years and to assist the private sector and sub-nationals in paying the minimum wage.
The Labour leaders praised the President for his decision, which comes after a previous meeting between the parties seven days ago.
Additionally, Tinubu promised to use his discretionary powers to meet the demands of university unions seeking unpaid salaries.
This development is a significant step forward for Nigerian workers, who have been advocating for a higher minimum wage.
