Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has called on residents to take full advantage of government’s agricultural interventions to boost food production during the 2025 cropping season.
Governor Buni made the appeal in Damaturu on Thursday while flagging off the distribution of 30,000 bags of 10kg rice donated to the state by the Dangote Foundation.
“As we prepare for this year’s cropping season, I urge you to massively engage in agriculture to ensure food sufficiency and food security,” the governor said.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting agricultural development through the provision of modern machinery, improved seeds, pesticides, and insecticides, to make agriculture more attractive and profitable for farmers across the state.
Buni disclosed that the international business communities in Qatar and Morocco have shown strong interest in Yobe’s agricultural products, including sesame seeds, Gum Arabic, and livestock. He said the state government is working to leverage these opportunities to promote economic recovery and improve livelihoods.
“We will take advantage of this opportunity to support the farming population in the state and all others with interest in agriculture,” he said.
The governor also urged the youth to actively explore the vast potential in agriculture, assuring them of special recognition and support from the government to help them become self-reliant and economically productive.
Governor Buni expressed appreciation to the Dangote Foundation for supporting vulnerable residents with food items, particularly at a time of growing economic challenges.
He directed local government and community distribution committees to prioritize the weak, vulnerable groups, persons living with disabilities, and victims of fire disasters during the rice distribution exercise.
