Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has reiterated his administration’s commitment to repositioning the state’s public service for improved efficiency and service delivery.
Buni gave the assurance on Tuesday in Damaturu while swearing in the new Commissioner for Livestock Development, Hon. Yerima Lawan Mahmud; Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa Shehu; two Special Advisers, Mohammed Bukar Ibrahim and Yahaya Barde; as well as the Statistician-General of the state, Abdulrahman Malik.
He said his administration would continue to equip and reform the public service to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people.
The governor charged the new Commissioner for Livestock Development to deploy his experience toward achieving the objectives behind the creation of the ministry.
“I wish to reassure livestock farmers that government will invest heavily in livestock development, especially the establishment of veterinary clinics, provision of water, development of fodder banks, and vaccination of livestock against trans-boundary diseases,” he said.
Buni expressed optimism that such investments would harness Yobe’s rich livestock potential and make the state Nigeria’s leading livestock production hub.
The governor also urged the new Head of Service to reinvigorate the civil service for greater productivity and improved service delivery.
“You are encouraged to promote and reward hard work to all deserving workers without sentiments, enhance teamwork, ensure delegation of responsibilities, and champion transparency and due process in conducting government business,” he said.
Buni noted that the state government had continued to prioritize capacity building to enhance productivity, adding that 34 permanent secretaries were currently undergoing training at the Public Service Institute, Abuja, while 149 other civil servants were being trained at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), Badagry, Lagos.
He said the appointment of Mohammed Bukar Ibrahim and Yahaya Inuwa Barde as Special Advisers would strengthen the relationship between government and the electorate.
“You are advised to use your connections with the grassroots to project the people’s interests so they can be reflected in government policies and programmes,” the governor said.
Buni further explained that the establishment of the State Bureau of Statistics was aimed at generating reliable data to guide the government in formulating and implementing effective policies and programmes.
He called on residents to continue to support and pray for both the state and federal governments under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a united, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria.
