Yobe State Governor, Hon. (Dr) Mai Mala Buni, has congratulated the newly appointed Emir of Gudi, Alhaji Ismaila Ahmed, describing his emergence as widely accepted and a reflection of the people’s will.
Governor Buni gave the commendation on Monday when he received a delegation from Gudi Emirate on a thank-you visit at the Government House, Damaturu.
“You have been a successful politician and now a traditional ruler; no one can tell you the importance of tolerance and accommodation better than you—your wealth of experience speaks volumes,” the Governor said.
He prayed for a peaceful and unifying reign for the new Emir, urging him to lead his people in harmony and prosperity.
“I pray that your tenure would unite the people of your Emirate in peace and prosperity. May Allah forgive the shortcomings of the late Emir and grant him Aljannah Firdaus,” Buni added.
While addressing the visiting delegation, the Governor charged traditional institutions in the state to intensify efforts in combating the rising threat of drug abuse among youths.
“As traditional rulers and custodians of our culture and values, you have critical roles to play in the moral upbringing of the younger generation in your domains,” he said.
Buni noted that the prevalence of illicit drug use was becoming a major concern in Northern Nigeria and stressed the need for collective action.
“Political leaders serve fixed tenures, but traditional rulers are lifelong leaders. That continuity places a unique responsibility on your shoulders in the fight against drug abuse,” the Governor stated.
He emphasised that the respect and influence enjoyed by the traditional institution makes it a vital partner in addressing societal challenges, particularly drug addiction.
“The government and traditional institutions must work hand in hand to eliminate this growing menace,” he said.
The visit ended with renewed commitment by the traditional leaders to support government policies and promote moral values in their communities.
