Buni Defends Employment Record, Says Over 15,000 Jobs Created in Six Years

The administration of Mai Mala Buni has highlighted its employment record, stating that more than 15,000 civil service jobs have been created in six years as part of efforts to revitalise the public service in Yobe State.

The claim was contained in a statement issued by Yusuf Ali, Focal Person, Digital and Strategic Communications, who challenged critics to identify any governor with a comparable employment record within the same period.

Ali described the figure as evidence of the administration’s commitment to human capital development despite economic constraints affecting many states.

He noted that while several state governments imposed employment embargoes due to rising wage bills and salary obligations, the Buni administration embarked on large-scale recruitment to address workforce shortages caused by mass retirements.

According to him, over 10,000 workers were recruited directly into the state civil service, contributing to a broader employment figure exceeding 15,000 across different sectors.

He added that beyond recruitment, the government implemented structured capacity-building initiatives to improve efficiency and productivity within ministries, departments, and agencies.

Ali said no fewer than 35 targeted training programmes had been organised, benefiting more than 6,395 civil servants and equipping them with modern governance and service delivery skills.

He identified the education sector as a major beneficiary of the administration’s workforce development strategy.

According to him, more than 4,000 teaching and non-teaching staff were recruited into primary and secondary schools, while over 26,000 teachers underwent training and retraining programmes aimed at improving classroom delivery and learning outcomes.

Ali said the administration’s approach balanced infrastructure development with investments in human resources, noting that employment expansion had helped strengthen institutional capacity and improve service delivery.

He maintained that the government remained committed to creating opportunities for citizens despite prevailing economic challenges affecting public sector employment nationwide.

The spokesperson said the administration’s record in employment and workforce development had contributed to the revitalisation of the civil service and improved morale among workers in the state.
