Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has denied claims that he plans to join a coalition being spearheaded by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.
Buni made the denial in a statement by his spokesman, Mamman Mohammed, on Saturday in Damaturu.
A viral text message had claimed that Buni and four other governors elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were planning to defect to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before the 2027 general elections.
Mohammed described the claim as baseless and a fabrication that had no link with reality.
“At no time was the author of the text ever close to the governor to predict his political movement,” he said.
Mohammed said Buni remained a committed member of the APC.
“Buni is no ordinary member of APC; he is not just an APC governor. He is APC in all ramifications, with APC flowing in his veins,” he said.
He added that Buni’s contributions as a two-term National Secretary and Chairman of the APC Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) demonstrated his commitment to the party.
Mohammed said the claims were “wishful thinking” by those who admired the governor’s political strength.
