The General Assembly of the Catholic Diocese of Wukari in Taraba State has urged Governor Agbu Kefas to prioritize the resettlement and reintegration of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state, particularly those who fled their homes due to conflicts and criminal activities in the Central and Southern zones.
During the First General Assembly of the Catholic Diocese of Wukari, resolutions were reached and outlined in a communique signed by Rev. Dr. Mark Maigida Nzukwein, the Bishop, and Very Rev. Fr. Simon Akuraga.
Emphasizing the importance of justice and peace for successful reconciliation, the Assembly highlighted the need to address internal wounds caused by conflicts through dialogue and conscience formation among all parties involved.
Recognizing the complexity of conflicts in Taraba State and their adverse impact on development and social harmony, the church called for a collective embrace of peace, forgiveness, and a focus on preserving human life and promoting physical development.
The Assembly specifically urged the State Government to facilitate the return and reintegration of IDPs as the farming season approaches, emphasizing that this action would not only promote lasting peace but also address food insecurity in the region.
