The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, has reaffirmed the military’s resolve to end insurgency in the North-East region through intensified operations and the deployment of new combat platforms.
Gen. Musa gave the assurance on Thursday during an operational visit to the Headquarters Theatre Command Joint Task Force, North East Operation HADIN KAI, in Maiduguri.
The CDS, who was received by the Theatre Commander, Maj.-Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, noted that more platforms and combat enablers would soon be injected into the theatre to strengthen the capacity of troops.
“We will continue to support you with the required resources and platforms. The nation is looking up to us as its last hope. We must be aggressive, focused, and unwavering in dealing with the terrorists,” Musa said.
He emphasized the need for tenacity and professionalism in confronting Boko Haram and ISWAP elements across the region.
Maj.-Gen. Abubakar, while presenting an update on recent operational activities, expressed appreciation for the CDS’s visit, describing it as a demonstration of the high value placed on the troops and their sacrifices.
Earlier in the day, Gen. Musa visited the site of a recent explosion at Giwa Barracks to assess the situation and receive a briefing from the Commander of 47 Engineers Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Abdul-Razak Kazeem.
The CDS commended the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team for promptly securing the area and urged them to remain disciplined and vigilant.
“Your role is crucial in ensuring the safety of personnel and assets. You have the full support of the Defence Headquarters,” he stated.
The CDS was accompanied by Principal Staff Officers from the Defence and Services Headquarters, underscoring the joint nature of ongoing military operations in the North-East.
