
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has commissioned a new Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre in Dukku Local Government Area of Gombe State, as part of efforts to deepen civil-military relations and support national development.
The project, executed under the COAS Special Intervention Civil-Military Cooperation Project (CSICP), was facilitated by the Director-General, Land Forces Simulation Centre Nigeria, Maj.-Gen. Mohammed Bello Wabili.
Represented by the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander Operation Enduring Peace, Maj.-Gen. Folorunsho Oyinlola, the COAS said the initiative reflects the Army’s commitment to contributing meaningfully to the social and economic growth of host communities.
He commended Maj.-Gen. Wabili for his foresight and dedication, urging residents to make proper use of the facilities.
The ICT Centre is equipped with 12 desktop computers, a solar inverter system, projector, printer, laminating machine, central server and other learning tools designed to enhance digital literacy, promote innovation and empower youths.
In his remarks, the project facilitator, Maj.-Gen. Wabili, expressed gratitude to the COAS for sustaining community-oriented projects aimed at strengthening Army–civilian relations. He said the centre would serve as a hub for learning and empowerment, particularly for students and young people.
Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, represented by the Commissioner for Trade, Industry and Tourism, Alhaji Nasiru Mohammed Aliyu, lauded the Nigerian Army for its support to the state, describing the centre as a welcome development that will boost education and economic growth in Dukku.
The Chairman of Dukku LGA, Alhaji Adamu Mohammed Waziri, delivered a vote of thanks, praising the Army’s commitment to improving the welfare of communities.
Dignitaries at the event included the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Maj.-Gen. Musa Etsu-Ndagi (represented by Col. Bashir Bello), the Commander 301 Artillery Regiment, the Emir of Dukku, Alhaji Haruna Abdulkadir El-Rashid II, and representatives of the Emir of Gombe, among others.
The ceremony featured the cutting of the commissioning ribbon, unveiling of the commemorative plaque and a group photograph.
