
The Adamawa State Police Command, in collaboration with members of the public, has arrested three suspected members of a robbery gang popularly known as “Shilla Boys” over alleged involvement in armed robbery, housebreaking and theft.
The suspects — Auwal Inusa, Huzaifa Ahmed and Lukman Abdullahi, all aged 19 and residents of Nassarawo Ward in Yola North Local Government Area — were apprehended on Jan. 5 at about 3:00 a.m.
Police sources said the suspects allegedly armed themselves with offensive weapons, including cutlasses, daggers and knives, before breaking into a house along Nassarawo area of Jimeta, where they reportedly robbed occupants of their valuables.
It was gathered that vigilant members of the community, who keyed into the police Community Policing Initiative, intercepted the suspects during the operation and successfully arrested three of them, while a fourth suspect escaped.
Items recovered from the suspects include two mobile phones, a power bank, one cutlass and two knives allegedly used in committing the crime.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Dankombo Morris, PSC (+), commended members of the public for their vigilance and cooperation with the police, describing the arrest as a positive outcome of effective community policing.
He urged residents to sustain collaboration with law enforcement agencies by promptly reporting suspicious movements and criminal activities in their neighbourhoods.
The police said investigation into the matter was ongoing, adding that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
