Concerns Mount Over Arrest of Peace Committee Chairman, Family in Taraba

The Peace Committee in Chanchanji community, Takum Local Government Council of Taraba State, has expressed concern over the arrest of its chairman, Salem Mela, his wife, and six children by suspected Department of State Services (DSS) operatives.

The committee demanded the immediate release of Mela’s wife and children, while any interrogation of Mela continues in accordance with the law.

In a statement signed by the committee’s Secretary, Solomon John Kulenkwagh on Thursday, the committee described the ongoing detention of a pregnant woman and young children as inhumane and an infringement on their fundamental rights.

The committee called on relevant authorities to act swiftly in rectifying the situation, upholding the values of justice, fairness, and respect for human rights.
