Court Jails Man Seven Years For Human Trafficking In Maiduguri

A Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri has convicted and sentenced a 35-year-old man, Mohammed Makinta, to seven years imprisonment for procuring a person for sexual exploitation.

The presiding judge, Hon. Justice Aisha Ndume, found the defendant guilty of the offence, which contravenes Section 16(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.

Makinta was also fined ₦1 million in addition to the prison term.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), which prosecuted the case, commended the court’s judgment, describing it as another milestone in the fight against human trafficking and sexual exploitation.

The agency reiterated its commitment to ensuring that traffickers and perpetrators of sexual exploitation face the full weight of the law.

NAPTIP further urged the public to support the ongoing campaign to end human trafficking and report suspected cases through its hotlines and social media platforms.
