Aliko Dangote, owner of the 650,000 barrels per day Dangote Refinery, has announced that petrol produced at the facility will hit the market within 48 hours, pending finalization of modalities with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
Dangote stated that the pricing of petrol from his refinery is an arrangement approved by the Federal Executive Council, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He assured Nigerians that the quality of petrol from his refinery will match global standards, ensuring longer engine life and no engine issues.
The refinery, which commenced operations in December 2023, has already begun supplying diesel and aviation fuel to marketers and is now set to roll out petrol.
This development is expected to alleviate Nigeria’s energy challenges, reduce reliance on imported refined petroleum products, and potentially stabilize petrol prices, which have tripled since the removal of subsidy in May 2023.
