Deputy Governor Farauta Calls for Environmental Action to Curb Climate Impact at ABC Yola

Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, has urged the management of the Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Yola to take decisive steps towards afforestation as a measure to mitigate the growing impacts of climate change.

Farauta made the call on tuesday during an inspection visit to the station’s facilities located in Mbamba, Yola South Local Government Area.

The Deputy Governor, who was accompanied by the Chief of Staff, Dr. Edgar Amos; Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Iliya James; and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Solomon Kumangar, was received and led on the tour by the General Manager of ABC Yola, Mr. Abdulnasir Muhammed.

The visit, which included an assessment of the broadcasting house and studio, was aimed at inspecting ongoing renovations and upgrades under the administration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

Prof. Farauta highlighted that the government recently procured modern broadcasting equipment, including high-powered transmitters, as part of its efforts to boost the station’s performance and expand its signal reach across the state.

She described the development as a demonstration of the administration’s commitment to revitalizing ABC Yola and enhancing its capacity to deliver timely and accurate information to the public.

However, the Deputy Governor expressed dissatisfaction with the poor handling and storage of the new equipment, warning that government investments must be managed responsibly.

Noting that the station’s premises were exposed to strong winds and other environmental threats, she directed the immediate commencement of a tree-planting initiative around the facility.

“Planting trees is not just a fashion, it is a necessity. A greener environment protects infrastructure, improves air quality, and strengthens community resilience,” Farauta stated.

She emphasized that the initiative aligns with the broader environmental protection goals of the Fintiri administration and supports its vision of strengthening information dissemination, especially to rural communities.

According to her, a safe and green environment would not only protect government infrastructure but also serve the wider interests of the community.
