Digital Nigeria 2025: Facebook, ChatGPT, and Dollar–Naira Conversations Dominate Online Trends

Facebook

From Facebook updates to ChatGPT conversations and the ever-changing dollar–naira exchange rate, Nigeria’s digital space is experiencing an unprecedented surge in online engagement and tech adoption, a recent digital trend analysis has shown.

According to a 2025 report by Global Web Insights, Facebook, ChatGPT, and Translate remain among the top five most-searched terms on Google in Nigeria — reflecting citizens’ growing reliance on social media, artificial intelligence, and real-time currency information to navigate daily life.

Facebook Still Nigeria’s Social Lifeline

Despite competition from TikTok and Instagram, Facebook continues to be Nigeria’s most actively used social platform, with over 40 million users. The platform’s integration with local marketplaces and news pages has made it a primary hub for business, information sharing, and political discourse.

Digital strategist Aminu Adeshina told NAN that Facebook’s strength lies in its adaptability. “In Nigeria, Facebook has evolved beyond a social app — it’s a business and information network. People trade, advertise, and even organize community events there,” he said.
