EFCC, CLO Forge Stronger Collaboration to Curb Economic Crimes in Borno

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has called for deeper collaboration with the Civil Liberty Organisation (CLO) to strengthen the fight against economic and financial crimes in the North-East.

Commander of the EFCC in Maiduguri, CE Aisha A.T. Habib, made the call on Wednesday while receiving the CLO Chairman, Comrade Dahiru Hassan, and other executive members during a courtesy visit to the Zonal Office in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Habib emphasized the importance of intelligence sharing and case referrals in sanitizing the nation’s financial system.

“The Civil Liberty Organisation is a strong stakeholder of the Commission. We are aware of the immense contributions your organisation has made, including reporting cases, sharing information, and participating in anti-corruption campaigns,” she said.

She urged the CLO to increase intelligence sharing on terrorism financing and related crimes in the North-East, noting that collective efforts were vital to defeating insurgency in the region.

“The insurgency in the land needs to be tackled, and this can only be achieved if all stakeholders work together and provide actionable information,” Habib added.

In response, CLO Chairman, Comrade Dahiru Hassan, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to closer cooperation with the EFCC. He disclosed that the CLO had received complaints on employment racketeering in Borno State and intended to refer such cases for investigation and possible prosecution.

“We do not have the mandate to prosecute, but we will work with the EFCC to ensure justice is served in the interest of the public,” he said.

Hassan commended the leadership of CE Habib and the efforts of the EFCC in the state, describing the Commission’s work as “wonders for the general public, directly and indirectly.
