
El-Kanemi College of Islamic Theology, Maiduguri, has been selected to host the Borno State preliminary round of the 17th edition of the Spelling Leaders Competition, organisers have announced.
The competition, organised by Spell Africa International, is scheduled to hold on Monday, March 2, 2026, at the El-Kanemi College of Islamic Theology, located along Kano/Jos Road, adjacent Borno Express, Maiduguri.
According to the organisers, the competition is open to all schools in Borno State and aims to promote spelling proficiency, language development and academic excellence among young learners.
Schools participating in the competition are required to register a minimum of 10 spellers, with eligible participants aged between six and 17 years. The organisers advised schools to complete registration early to allow for adequate preparation ahead of the contest.
The Spelling Leaders Competition is part of a nationwide initiative that brings together students from across the 36 states, with opportunities for scholarships and academic recognition for outstanding performers.
