El-Kanemi Warriors continued their impressive form with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Nasarawa United in a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) fixture on Saturday.
Al-Amin Umar scored the decisive goal in the 29th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to put the Warriors ahead at the El-Kanemi Stadium, Maiduguri.
Despite several attempts by Nasarawa United to equalize, the home side held firm, with goalkeeper Abine George making a series of crucial saves to keep his team in the lead.
The visitors dominated possession in the second half, with Anas Yusuf, Garba Abubakar, and Idris Ajayi leading their attacking push. However, their efforts were thwarted by El-Kanemi’s resolute defense.
Rislanu Ismail and Gimba Ajiji had opportunities to extend the Warriors’ lead but failed to convert their chances.
Speaking after the match, El-Kanemi head coach Aliyu Zubairu expressed satisfaction with the result but emphasized the need for improvement.
“It was a must-win match, but we still have work to do. We will make some tactical and technical adjustments to strengthen our game as we move forward,” he said.
With this victory, El-Kanemi Warriors climbed to fourth place on the NPFL table as they continued their push for a top finish this season.
The Maiduguri-based club will now shift focus to their next match, a midweek away fixture against Kano Pillars at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
