The Managing Director of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Akintunde Sawyerr, has urged parents across the country to encourage their children to take advantage of the Federal Government’s student loan initiative to further their education.
Sawyerr made the call during a sensitization programme held in Ekiti State, according to a statement signed by Omojola Seun-Ojerinde on behalf of the Fund.
He explained that President Bola Tinubu was determined to relieve parents of the financial burden of funding tertiary education, stressing that the student loan scheme presents a life-changing opportunity for young Nigerians.
“The student loan policy has given people access and the opportunity to further their education to the tertiary level,” Sawyerr said. “Nigerians are yearning for knowledge; they want to learn, and this scheme allows them to do just that.”
Speaking at the Palace of the Oore of Otun Ekiti and Paramount Ruler of Moba Land, Oba Adekunle Adeagbo, the NELFUND boss appealed to parents to encourage their wards in public tertiary institutions to apply for the loan.
Highlighting the growing enthusiasm for the programme, he revealed that the Fund had received 12,000 applications within 24 hours of the portal’s opening, describing the response as “a huge impact.”
The student loan scheme is part of the Federal Government’s effort to expand access to tertiary education and promote equal opportunities for all Nigerian students, regardless of economic background.
