Family Returns N11m Unearned Salaries to Yobe Govt

In a rare act of integrity, the family of late Baba Aji Mamman has refunded N11 million in unearned salaries to the Yobe State Government, fulfilling his dying wish.

The family disclosed the gesture in an advertorial published in Daily Trust. Baba Aji Mamman, a former staff member of the Rural Electrification Board in Damaturu, struggled with health issues in his later years, attending work only two to three days a week instead of the required five.

Before his death on March 28, 2020, Mamman instructed his family to calculate the salaries he received for the days he missed and return the money to the state. After determining the amount to be N11 million, the family raised the funds, deposited them into the state account, and issued a formal apology for their father’s actions.

The move has earned widespread praise for its moral significance, underscoring the importance of accountability and integrity in both public and private spheres.
