FedPoly Damaturu Governing Council confirms Dr. Lawan Cheri as Deputy Rector

The Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Damaturu, has confirmed Dr. Lawan Cheri as the new Deputy Rector of the institution.

The confirmation was made during the Council’s 8th Regular Meeting, following Dr. Cheri’s decisive victory in the Academic Board election.

In a statement issued by the Registrar, Muazu Aliyu Iliyasu, the appointment takes effect from 27 November 2025 and will run for a four-year tenure.

The Registrar said Dr. Cheri is expected to bring his extensive academic and administrative experience to bear in supporting the growth and transformation of the polytechnic.

The office became vacant after the former Deputy Rector (Administration), Dr. Ibrahim Babale Gashua, was appointed Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaltungo, Gombe State.

Profile of the New Deputy Rector

Dr. Cheri, a Chief Lecturer, holds a PhD in Public Administration from the University of Maiduguri. He joined the Federal Polytechnic, Damaturu, in 2011 and has since held several key roles, including:

Pioneer Head, Department of Public Administration

Dean, School of Management Sciences

Chairman/member of various strategic committees

He also serves as a visiting lecturer at the Federal University Gashua and Yobe State University, Damaturu.

Outside the academic sphere, Dr. Cheri is the founder of the Bade Heritage Group of Schools and the Chief Executive Officer of Cherish Kukaram Nig. Ltd.

He is married and blessed with children.
