FG Commends Gombe Skills Acquisition Policies

The Federal Government has lauded the Gombe State Government for its proactive policies aimed at further encouraging skills acquisition.

The commendation was expressed by the Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman, during a meeting with the Gombe State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Aishatu Umar Maigari, at his office on Friday in Abuja.

Minister Mamman commended Gombe State’s 10-year Development Plan, the establishment of Mega Colleges, improvement of existing Technical and Vocational colleges, and the ongoing establishment of the Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park.

He emphasized that these initiatives are in line with the Federal Government’s National Skills Framework (NSF), designed to provide appropriate skills for each level of education from Primary to Tertiary levels, empowering generations of Nigerians to meet the evolving needs of the 21st-century global economy.

The minister highlighted that the NSF, when fully implemented, will address skills gaps, improve the quality of education, tackle unemployment concerns, and provide for skills certification in line with the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Dr. Aishatu Umar Maigari briefed the minister on the UNESCO Project in Gombe, where over 1000 IDPs were trained on psychosocial support and sports for peace.

Additionally, selected women and youths were trained and presented with starter packs in various trades and skills, including hairdressing, knitting, catering, shoe making, and barbing, among others.

Furthermore, the Commissioner disclosed the state government’s collaboration with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to accredit and upgrade state Science and Technical Colleges and selected centers to become centers of excellence in skills acquisition, aligning with international best practices.

She emphasized that the Gombe State Government, under the visionary leadership of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, is aligning the education sector with the 10-year Gombe State Development Plan (DEVAGOM 2021-2030).

This strategic alignment aims to expedite development, including the ongoing Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park, set to create job opportunities for the state’s youth and attract investors within and outside the country.
