FG Commends Inuwa Yahaya as Gombe Unveils A&E Complex in Kaltungo

The Federal Government has commended Gov. Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State for his administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the health system, describing the state as a model for health sector reform in Nigeria.

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, gave the commendation during the commissioning of an ultra-modern Accident and Emergency (A&E) complex at the General Hospital, Kaltungo.

The newly constructed A&E facility features consulting rooms, a triage area, seminar rooms, a library, offices, and other support infrastructure.

Gombe State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Habu Dahiru, said the A&E unit is part of a broader strategy to upgrade health infrastructure and improve service delivery across the state.

Prof. Pate praised the governor’s initiatives, including primary healthcare revitalization, hospital upgrades, workforce development, and the conversion of Kumo General Hospital into a Federal Medical Centre.

“Gov. Yahaya and his team have made remarkable progress in aligning state-level reforms with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” the minister said.

He also commended the state government for recently approving the CONMESS and CONHESS salary structures for health workers, describing the move as a strategic step toward retaining skilled personnel.

In his remarks, Gov. Yahaya attributed the achievements to teamwork and stakeholder collaboration.

“We are committed to improving health outcomes through investment in infrastructure and human resources,” the governor said.

During a visit to the Snakebite Treatment and Research Centre in Kaltungo, the minister noted the facility’s significance as a referral centre in the region, particularly during the farming season when snakebite incidents are prevalent.

He said the centre treats between 2,000 and 3,000 patients annually, many from neighbouring states and countries.

Pate disclosed that the Federal Government, in partnership with Gombe State, would work to upgrade the centre into a regional hub for treatment, research, training, and local production of anti-snake venom.
