FG Commends Yobe Govt for Outstanding Performance in Basic Education

The Federal Ministry of Education has commended the Yobe State Government for its remarkable strides in basic education, describing the state’s commitment as exemplary and transformative.

This was contained in a special letter of commendation personally signed by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and addressed to Governor Mai Mala Buni.

“I write to convey the commendation of Your Excellency’s unwavering commitment to advancing the basic education sector in Yobe State,” the letter stated.

Dr. Alausa praised the governor’s proactive approach to foundational education, noting that it reflects sustained prioritisation aimed at improving outcomes for the over 967,000 children of basic education age in the state.

He specifically lauded the state’s full access to the 2024 Universal Basic Education (UBE) matching grant, describing it as a sign of effective leadership and strategic policy implementation in the education sector.

The commendation comes at a time when Yobe State gained global attention after three female students—Nafisa Abdullah, Rukayya Muhammad Fema, and Khadija Kashim—emerged world champions at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals held in London, United Kingdom. The competition featured over 20,000 participants from 69 countries.

The minister further applauded Yobe’s efforts in equipping children with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in a competitive global environment.

Responding to the commendation, Governor Buni said the recognition from the federal government would serve as a motivation to strive for higher achievements in the education sector.

“This recognition is not just for the government but for every teacher, parent, and stakeholder who has worked tirelessly to support our education policy,” Buni said.

He reaffirmed his administration’s continued commitment to ensuring quality education for all children in the state, with special focus on girls’ education, teacher training, infrastructure, and digital learning.
