The Federal Government has commended Gov. Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno for expanding Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the state following the graduation of about 3,000 trainees from vocational institutes.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Education on Sunday in Abuja.
The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, described the initiative as a significant step toward empowering young Nigerians with practical and employable skills.
According to the minister, the trainees graduated from nine Vocational Enterprise Institutes and Centres across Borno.
He said the graduates were provided with starter packs and a N100,000 entrepreneurship grant each to support their transition into productive economic activities.
Alausa noted that the programme aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritises youth empowerment and economic inclusion through skills development.
He disclosed that the Federal Government was implementing a nationwide TVET programme aimed at providing about 250,000 training opportunities for young Nigerians.
According to him, more than 180,000 youths are already undergoing training in various centres across the country.
The minister explained that the programme adopts a model that emphasises 80 per cent practical training and 20 per cent theoretical instruction.
He added that the Federal Government was also developing a national TVET job portal to connect skilled graduates with industry opportunities.
The portal, he said, would also support artisans with starter packs and access to affordable loans to enable them establish businesses.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to expanding skills development initiatives to drive youth empowerment and economic growth across the country.
