FG declares Wednesday public holiday for Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, as a public holiday to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement on Monday in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora on what he described as a “historic milestone” in the nation’s journey since independence in 1960.

He urged citizens to continue to uphold the patriotic values of unity, peace, and resilience that have kept the country together over the decades.

The minister also called on Nigerians to remain committed to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, describing it as a pathway to national rebirth, economic transformation, and collective prosperity.

“With the collective effort of all Nigerians, the country will continue to progress in peace, development, and national cohesion,” he said.

Tunji-Ojo wished citizens a happy and memorable Independence Day celebration.

The Federal Government has also reiterated its commitment to building a united, peaceful, and prosperous nation through inclusive governance and sustained reform efforts.
