The Federal Government has pledged full support for the 2026 edition of the “Let There Be Teachers” Conference, a national initiative aimed at mobilising 200,000 teachers across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to drive systemic reforms in the education sector.
The commitment was given by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, during a courtesy visit by the Convener of the conference, Mr Oluwaseyi Anifowose, to the ministry in Abuja.
A statement issued on Monday by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Mrs Boriowo Folasade, said the minister described the initiative as a bold step toward elevating the teaching profession in Nigeria.
Alausa reaffirmed the government’s resolve to improve teacher quality under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He stressed that no education system can rise above the quality of its teachers, noting that the conference aligns with the Federal Government’s broader reform agenda for the sector.
According to him, the ministry has launched a zero-rated digital platform to support continuous professional development for teachers nationwide.
He also announced that from 2026, the Federal Government will assume responsibility for license fees payable by public school teachers to the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
The minister said the move would ease financial burdens on teachers while strengthening professional standards and accountability in the system.
The 2026 conference, organisers said, builds on the 2025 Guinness World Record milestone and seeks to shift focus from symbolic achievements to measurable reform outcomes across the country.
The conference is expected to convene educators from all states of the federation and the FCT to chart pathways for sustained improvement in teaching quality and learning outcomes.
