FG Gives Update on Implementation of Tertiary Staff Support Fund

The Federal Government has provided an update on the ongoing implementation of the Tertiary Institution Staff Support Fund (TISSF), indicating that the data analysis phase is currently underway to guide equitable disbursement across institutions.

In a letter dated Sept. 24 and signed by Mr Adebayo Onigbanjo, National Coordinator of the Special Programs Operations and Implementation Unit, the Ministry of Education reiterated its commitment to fairness and inclusivity in the rollout of the intervention.

According to the update, the Ministry is reviewing applications received from academic and non-academic staff in tertiary institutions, with a view to finalising disbursement plans.

However, the government noted that no applications had been received from staff of six polytechnic institutions, including Edo State Institute of Technology & Management, Usen; Federal Polytechnic, Ukana; Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron; Edo State Polytechnic, Usen; Kalac Christal Polytechnic; and Ronik Polytechnic.

The Ministry has reached out to the Director of Polytechnics, Dr Ejeh A. Usman, requesting clarification on the reasons behind the absence of applications from the listed institutions.

“As you are aware, the TISSF is designed to provide targeted financial support and relief to staff across all categories within tertiary institutions,” the letter stated.

The Ministry urged the affected institutions to confirm whether information about the fund had been adequately shared with staff, highlight any challenges encountered during the application process, and recommend ways to improve engagement.

Stakeholders have been asked to respond by Sept. 26 to enable the Ministry to complete its data assessment and commence disbursements.

The TISSF initiative is part of the Federal Government’s broader effort to enhance staff welfare and support human capital development within Nigeria’s tertiary education system.
