The federal government has inaugurated an analytical laboratory of the Federal Institute of Industrial Research for the North East zone.
Located in Yola, the lab is described as one to provide scientific conservation of food for export for the North East.
Speaking for the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Esuabana Asanye said the ministry is targeting developing the economy through science and technology for the economic prosperity of the region.
The new office would develop technologies that promote the ideals of entrepreneurship development.
The minister said the Federal Institute of Industrial Research would open up and boost farming and fishing as well as small and medium-scale enterprises aimed at moving the region forward.
The Director General of the Institute of Industrial Research, Dr Jummai Adamu who also spoke on the occasion, said the institute is providing a platform for people to excel through the impartation of innovative skills for job creation geared towards poverty reduction.
The Adamawa state deputy governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta who also spoke, stated the government’s commitment to enabling an environment for a technologically driven society.
Farauta said the government has invested hugely in the award of scholarships to students in tertiary institutions to study science courses abroad.
