The Federal Government has formalised a partnership with Singapore’s Institute of Technical Education Education Services (ITEES) to strengthen Nigeria’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system.
The agreement was signed during a ceremony linking officials in Abuja and Singapore, with Nigeria represented by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and Singapore represented by ITEES.
A statement issued on Thursday by the Federal Ministry of Education said the partnership is aimed at improving the quality of technical education and skills training in the country.
According to the ministry, the collaboration builds on engagements initiated during the 2025 visit of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, to Singapore, where he met with the country’s Minister of Education, Desmond Lee, and toured campuses of the Institute of Technical Education.
It added that further discussions were later held with Singapore’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Lim Sim Seng, leading to the finalisation of the agreement.
Under the partnership, ITEES will implement a Train-the-Trainer programme designed to strengthen the pedagogical and assessment capacity of TVET instructors across Nigeria.
The programme will also include leadership training in Singapore for principals and heads of departments of technical institutions.
In addition, the Global Excellence Model for Skills Training (GEMSET) will be introduced to help benchmark Nigerian technical institutions against international standards.
The ministry noted that the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to reposition technical education as a key driver of economic growth, job creation and industrial development in Nigeria.
The statement was signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations in the ministry, Mrs. Folasade Boriowo.
