FG Queries Contractor Over Flood-Damaged Kano-Maiduguri Highway

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has expressed disappointment over the destruction of a newly rehabilitated section of the Kano-Maiduguri highway due to flooding. In a statement, Umahi noted that completed roads in Nigeria often don’t last five years, citing the need for a lasting solution.

A technical team has been dispatched to evaluate the damage, and the minister has promised to find a solution. He also announced the termination of a contract awarded to Dantata & Sawoe Ltd in 2007 due to time constraints.

Umahi emphasized the need to review the liability period for federal government projects to ensure durability and value for money. He called for concerted efforts from contractors handling projects under the tax credit scheme to complete awarded projects promptly.

The minister highlighted progress made in funding critical projects under the Tax Credit Scheme and emphasized the importance of milestone completion and timetables for ongoing projects.
