The Federal Government has set February 17, 2025, as the final deadline for federal civil servants to complete their identity verification on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) portal.
The directive, aimed at eliminating ghost workers, was issued by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), in a memo obtained on Saturday.
The government warned that failure to complete the verification process could result in the suspension of salary payments and other disciplinary measures.
The exercise requires civil servants to provide their Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), IPPIS number, and salary account details via the OAGF portal (www.oagf.gov.ng).
“Following the Treasury Circular with Ref. No. TRY/A6&B6/2024-OAGF/CAD/026/Vol. V/910 dated June 27, 2024, and a subsequent extension on August 16, 2024, I am directed to inform you that the AGF has approved an additional one-week extension for the OAF-IPPIS Payroll Validation Portal from February 10 to 17, 2025,” the memo stated.
Affected workers who have not completed the process are urged to do so before the deadline.
The memo emphasized that civil servants who fail to verify their identity before midnight on February 17 may face consequences, including removal from the payroll.
Accounting officers, directors, and heads of finance and audit units in government agencies have been directed to ensure strict compliance and circulate the directive widely.
The directive follows President Bola Tinubu’s 2024 order that civil servants receiving salaries after relocating abroad must refund the money. The president also mandated penalties for supervisors and department heads involved in payroll fraud.
The government’s efforts to sanitize the federal payroll system align with its broader commitment to accountability and transparency in public service administration.
