
The Federal Government and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) on Wednesday held a meeting to review and re-negotiate the 2009 Agreement between both parties.
The meeting, held On Wednesday in Abuja, was aimed at reviewing and updating the terms of the existing and proposed provisions of the agreement to reflect current realities in the university system.
In attendance were the Chairman of the Re-negotiation Committee and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed; Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. A. Y. Ribadu; President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero; and National President of SSANU, Comrade M. H. Ibrahim.
Others present included former SSANU National President, Comrade Promise Adewusi; Deputy National President, Comrade Dr. Ador Leku; National Vice Presidents, Comrade A. O. Salaam (Western Zone), Comrade Cheta Azumah (South-South), and Comrade Audu Isa (North-East), alongside other committee members.
The meeting marked the first time the NLC President personally attended the re-negotiation session in solidarity with SSANU.
The ongoing re-negotiation is expected to address key issues related to staff welfare, conditions of service, and the overall improvement of the Nigerian university system.
