FG to Review Minimum Wage Before End of Tinubu’s First Term

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to reviewing the N70,000 minimum wage before the end of President Bola Tinubu’s first term.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mrs. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, disclosed this during a briefing with journalists in Umuahia, Abia, after a meeting with labour leaders in the state.

Onyejeocha assured workers that the government is determined to fulfill its promises and prioritize their welfare.

“We are not going to allow minimum wage reviews to take forever. Previously, it was reviewed every five years, but now it is set for every three years. This means, in less than two years, we will review the minimum wage again,” she said.

The minister noted that the review timeline has been properly documented, assuring workers of the Federal Government’s sincerity and transparency.

Onyejeocha also called on labour leaders to play a critical role in ensuring industrial harmony and fostering a productive, strike-free year.

“We should have a strike-free year where we can partner with the government in peace and productivity,” she said.

President Tinubu approved the current N70,000 minimum wage in July 2024 with a commitment to reviewing it every three years.
