Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has pledged his full support to the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) as the state prepares to host the society’s 2026 annual National Conference.
Governor Fintiri gave the assurances while receiving the national leadership of the PSN, led by its National Chairman, Pharmacist Ayuba Tanko Ibrahim, at the Government House in Yola. He described the society as an integral part of Nigeria’s healthcare delivery system and assured that his administration would provide all necessary support to ensure the success of the conference.
“I have always considered pharmacists as a vital part of our hospital services,” Fintiri said, noting that although Adamawa lacks a pharmaceutical training institute or department in its tertiary institutions, the state has implemented reforms to attract professionals in the healthcare sector.
He emphasized that his administration would continue to make the pharmaceutical profession more attractive in the state and extend similar support to members of the PSN as has been done for doctors, nurses, and other health workers. The Governor also ratified an order directing the state Ministry of Environment to refrain from interfering in matters exclusively under the PSN’s jurisdiction, urging the Head of Service to enforce the directive.
In his remarks, PSN National Chairman, Pharmacist Ayuba Tanko Ibrahim, thanked the Governor for his unwavering commitment to healthcare development. He noted that the society, established in 1927, will mark its centenary in 2026 and highlighted the Governor’s contributions, including appointments of PSN members to key government positions and the establishment of additional pharmacy units in state health facilities.
The PSN chairman also called for the establishment of a college of pharmaceutical sciences in Adamawa to ensure a sufficient number of pharmacists for the state’s health facilities. He appealed to Governor Fintiri to ensure the Ministry of Environment stops unlawful inspections and seizures of pharmaceutical premises, which he said undermine the society’s functions and contravene Nigerian law.
Pharmacist Ibrahim concluded by soliciting the Governor’s continued support as Adamawa State prepares to host the PSN’s 2026 National Conference, assuring that the event will promote professional development and healthcare delivery in the state.
