In response to the ongoing measles outbreak, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has instructed all commissioners to return to their local government areas and engage with stakeholders to raise awareness and sensitize citizens about the outbreak.
According to Barr. Bello Hamman Diram, Commissioner for Rehabilitation, Reintegration and Reconstruction (RRR) and Humanitarian Services, the outbreak has affected four wards in Yola South LGA, with 31 reported cases, 10 confirmed, 9 negative, and 12 pending cases.
During a stakeholders’ meeting in Yola South LGA on Monday, Barr. Hamman Diram emphasized the importance of sensitization in curbing the outbreak.
He revealed that relevant stakeholders, including the Primary Health Care Agency, have been contacted to support the awareness campaign.
The representative of the World Health Organization (WHO), Muhammad Dahiru, urged citizens to report any suspected cases to the nearest health facility for proper management.
Measles is a viral disease characterized by symptoms such as fever, headache, conjunctivitis, rashes, cough, and runny nose.
Goodwill messages were delivered by various stakeholders, including the Executive Secretary of the Primary Health Care Development Agency (PHDA), District Head of Yola, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Livestock and Aquaculture, among others.
