Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa has announced an upward review of monthly allowances for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state from N20,000 to N30,000.
Fintiri made the announcement on Friday at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch B Stream I Orientation Course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Damare, Girei Local Government Area.
Dressed in full NYSC regalia, the governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and the welfare of corps members, noting that the increment aligns with the state’s continuous effort to provide a conducive environment for national service.
“As a government, we are committed to improving the welfare of corps members. This increment aligns with our promise to create a friendly and supportive atmosphere for you,” he said.
Fintiri also disclosed that plans were underway for the construction of a brand new NYSC camp in the state. He directed the State NYSC Coordinator to involve corps members with backgrounds in architecture, civil engineering, and quantity surveying in the supervision of the project.
He congratulated the newly sworn-in corps members and welcomed them to Adamawa, urging them to be disciplined, engage in community development, and serve as partners in the implementation of key government policies, especially in the education sector.
“You are expected to uphold discipline, engage in community development, and cultivate healthy interactions. This orientation will prepare you mentally and physically for national service,” Fintiri said.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Youths and Chairman of the NYSC Governing Board in the state, Barr. Wali Yakubu, urged corps members to take the orientation course seriously, adhere to camp rules, and embrace skills acquisition programmes to promote self-reliance beyond the service year.
Earlier, the State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Osoro Caroline, lauded the discipline and responsiveness exhibited by the corps members since arrival, stating that the orientation programme is designed to equip them with tools for national development.
She commended Governor Fintiri for the increment in allowances, the proposed new camp, and other welfare interventions, describing him as a visionary leader and a beacon of youth empowerment.
The event featured the administration of the oath of allegiance by the Chief Judge of Adamawa, Justice Hapsat Abdurrahman, and the presentation of the NYSC journal to the governor.
