Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has reiterated his administration’s commitment to empowering citizens in a bid to transform Adamawa State’s economic landscape.
The governor made this known at the 2024 Interdenominational Christmas Carol of Nine Lessons and Praise Night, organised on Sunday, 8th December, 2024 by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Adamawa State chapter.
The event, with the theme “Renewed Hope: Celebrating the Birth of Jesus Christ,” drew Christians from all denominations and walks of life to the Mahmud Ribadu Square in Yola.
The celebration featured the lighting of the 2024 Christmas Tree, performed by the Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, who represented Governor Fintiri at the occasion.
The deputy governor was also honored by the CAN Women’s Wing as “Worthy Ambassador of Christian Women in Adamawa State.”
In his address, Governor Fintiri appreciated the unwavering prayers and support of the Christian faithful, which he credited as pivotal to the state’s ongoing transformation.
He urged citizens to avoid unnecessary sales of farm produce to mitigate food insecurity and reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to empowerment programs such as the “Fintiri Wallet.”
According to him, these initiatives are just the beginning of many more to come.
Fintiri also called on parents and guardians to take advantage of the government’s free education policy by ensuring their children are enrolled in schools.
He emphasised the provision of a conducive learning environment, instructional materials, and other educational resources as part of his administration’s efforts to improve education in the state.
Touching on environmental concerns, the governor advised residents, especially those in flood-prone areas, to remain vigilant as flooding has become a recurring challenge in the state.
The CAN Chairman, Reverend Dr. Joel Manzo, urged Christians to use the carol as an opportunity for sober reflection and to remain steadfast in their faith.
He described the theme of the carol as a reminder that Christ’s birth renews hope and brings new beginnings, even in seemingly hopeless situations. Reverend Manzo highlighted the significance of unity in diversity, calling on religious, political, and community leaders to embrace togetherness for collective progress.
Acknowledging Governor Fintiri’s efforts in enhancing security and reducing crime in Adamawa, Reverend Manzo reaffirmed the Christian community’s support for his transformative leadership and impactful policies.
The guest preacher, Reverend Dr. Sekenwa Moses Briska, delivered a stirring sermon on the theme “Renewed Hope.” He reminded Christians of their divine commission to spread the gospel and live as beacons of hope, love, and light.
Reverend Briska urged believers to reflect on their roles as God’s ambassadors, emphasizing that God’s promises never fail.
The event also featured special prayers for unity, security, economic prosperity, and political stability in Adamawa State and Nigeria at large. The occasion was marked by presentation of songs of worship which reflected the period and a renewed sense of purpose among attendees.
Correspondent reports that the 2024 Christmas Carol once again served as a platform to foster unity, celebrate faith, and inspire hope for a brighter future in the state and beyond.
