
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State on Thursday presented a proposed budget of over N583 billion for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly.
Presenting the budget proposal during a plenary session of the Assembly in Yola, the governor put the total estimate at N583,331,380,496. He explained that N373,690,964,682, representing 64.07 per cent of the budget, is earmarked for capital expenditure, while N209,640,964,682, representing 35.93 per cent, is allocated for recurrent spending.
Governor Fintiri said a significant portion of the budget, exceeding N120 billion, has been allocated to the Ministry of Works and Energy Development to sustain ongoing and new road construction and other infrastructure projects in Yola and across other parts of the state.
According to him, the education sector will receive the second-highest allocation, with slightly over N40 billion, while the health sector is to get N31.9 billion to improve healthcare delivery in the state.
The governor commended members of the House of Assembly for the cooperation and support his administration enjoyed from lawmakers across party lines and appealed for the speedy consideration and passage of the 2026 Appropriation Bill.
In his response, the Speaker of the House, Mr Bathiya Wesley, praised the executive arm for what he described as commendable implementation of the outgoing year’s budget.
Wesley assured the governor that the Assembly would commence work on the budget proposal immediately to ensure it receives prompt attention and is passed in good time.
