A fire outbreak at the Munna Albadawi Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Jere Local Government Area of Borno State has destroyed ten makeshift shelters and claimed the life of a 7-year-old boy, identified as Abubakar Gargar.
According to the camp chairman, Babangida Mahmud, the fire started at about 3:00 a.m. on March 20, 2025, consuming foodstuffs, clothing, and other personal belongings. The total value of damages has yet to be determined.
The Borno State Fire Service, in collaboration with security agencies, managed to contain the fire, but not before significant destruction had occurred.
Tragically, young Abubakar Gargar lost his life in the inferno. His remains were photographed and released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
In response to the incident, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and other humanitarian organizations have deployed officials to assess the level of destruction and provide assistance to affected families.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire, but efforts are underway to enhance safety measures in the camp to prevent future occurrences.
