First Lady Inaugurates 1,000-Capacity Gombe College of Nursing Sciences

Nigeria’s First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, on Friday inaugurated the newly built 1,000-capacity Gombe State College of Nursing Sciences, describing it as a bold step towards improving healthcare delivery and human capital development.

The ultra-modern institution, constructed by the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, is aimed at expanding access to professional training for nurses and midwives in the state.

Speaking during the commissioning in Gombe, the First Lady commended the governor for his foresight and commitment to health and education.

“This college is an investment in the future of healthcare in Gombe and Nigeria at large. By training nurses and midwives here, the state is building the human capital needed to save lives and improve healthcare outcomes,” she said.

Tinubu noted that the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration, especially in the areas of youth empowerment and national development.

She encouraged students of the college to pursue their training with diligence, saying their future roles in the healthcare system are critical.

“I urge you to approach your training with excellence, because the future of healthcare in this state rests on your shoulders,” she added.

In his remarks, Governor Yahaya reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening the health sector through strategic investments in infrastructure, training, and manpower.

He said the new college is expected to serve as a centre of excellence in the production of healthcare professionals who will address maternal, child, and general health challenges across the state and beyond.

The event was attended by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, as well as heads of key health agencies and institutions.
