
Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to provide immediate relief to communities affected by heavy downpour in Potiskum on Friday.
Dr Mohammed Goje, Executive Secretary of SEMA, told newsmen in Potiskum that the agency received an emergency alert in the early hours of Friday and promptly activated field teams for rapid assessment and intervention.
He said no loss of life had been recorded at the time of filing this report.
Goje listed the affected areas as Old Prison, Filin Mashe, Unguwar Makafi, Unguwar Jaje Bakin Kwari, Afghanistan, Tsangaya, Karofi, Bayan Garejin Dan Juma, Jigawa Bayan, Makarahuta, and Tandari.
“The detailed assessment is ongoing and the government will ensure that life-saving support, protection, and immediate relief are provided to all affected persons,” he said.
The executive secretary reiterated the governor’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of residents, and urged communities to remain vigilant during the rainy season and promptly report emergencies to relevant authorities.
